I. SHARE MEMBERSHIP AND RISK

This summer, you will join our family in the risk of farming. Most of the crops are in, and they reflect the ups and downs, the bounty and loss of what our Wisconsin climate and soils can produce. We can’t control the weather. Your share may have less (or more!) of what you are expecting. Through diversity, good planning, and customization, it is our aim that your box will be full of beautiful vegetables each delivery.

II. CUSTOMIZING YOUR SHARE & OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

As the farmers, it is our responsibility to grow, pack, and deliver food to you with open communication. Members have responsibilities too. To make sure everyone gets their share each week, we ask that you follow the simple, yet critical directions we offer.

Basic member responsibilities:

  1. Read communications from the farm.
  2. Know where and when to pick-up your veggie share. Out of respect for both your farmers and other members, make sure anyone picking up your box on your behalf knows what to do as well.  The farm will not issue credit or refunds for unclaimed or forgotten boxes.
  3. Please follow current county masking guidelines.
  4. Take only the box labelled with your name.
  5. Please be mindful that we can’t control the growing conditions. The quantity and quality of the produce you receive may be more or less than expected.

Customizing Your Share:

The option to customize is available to all members  but not required. If you do not wish to customize, then we will pack and deliver the pre-filled/default share to you.

If you’d like to customize, here’s how:

** Please note it is best to first attempt this on a desktop computer.**  Once you are familiar with how it works you can use your smart phone, but know that sometimes it’s a little more glitchy on smart phones.

Step 1. Each Friday, you will receive an email from the farm that tells you what will be in the pre-filled share the following Wednesday.  If you want the share as is, you don’t have to do a thing.
Step 2. If you’d like to customize, you’ll click the link in the email that will take you to our online store and login. Generally, you should only ever have to log in once on each device, as the browser should remember you in future. Works on smart phones too.
Step 3. Once in the store, you should see your name in the upper right corner. And next to that your cart with all the items that we are planning to put in your share. It will list the number of items in the box and will state that you have 0 credits remaining.
Step 4. You can now begin to customize.  To take something out of your cart, use the the minus sign. To increase an item use the plus sign. To add an item that’s not in the box but is available in the online store, use the plus/minus buttons under the item.
Step 5. Understand your credits. Each box will have a certain number of credits each week (typically fewer credits in the early part of the season, more credits as the heat loving crops come in). Let’s say your first box has 40 credits worth of food in it. So as you make changes and substitutions, you want to try and keep at 40 credits. You may purchase additional items(aka go over 40 credits), but unused credits DO NOT rollover into future deliveries. Extra credits chosen will be charged to your credit card; each credit is charged as $1. Once your credit card is on file, you won’t have to re-enter it on future orders. Play around with the system a bit and look at your cart to see how adding and subtracting items looks.
Step 6. Understand inventory.  If an item’s plus sign is greyed out, that means there is no more inventory available of that item. The sooner you make your choices, the more options will be available.
Step 7. To finalize your box order, click check out at the bottom of your cart. Then you need to click “place order” on the next page. You’ll see a black and white confirmation page once you’ve completed these steps. If you don’t click “place order”, the order won’t go through.
Step 8. If you make a mistake on your order, you can go back and edit it. You have to re-do the entire order and place it again.
Step 9. You have until Sunday afternoon at 4pm to customize your share box. After that, you will be unable to make any changes. This gives the farm the time it needs to plan and prep for the needed harvests on Monday and Tuesday. If you need to change your email on file to one that works best for this Fri-Sun window, you can do so on your account: https://csa.farmigo.com/account/crossroadscommunityfarm

V. PICK-UP REMINDERS

We highly recommend you set Wednesday pm cell phone reminders for yourself to pick up your share on your delivery day. Why? Because shares not picked up within the specified site times are donated.

Here’s an easy way to do so on an iPhone using the included reminders app. (If you don’t see it, you can download from the app store). I just use Siri and say, “Remind me every Wednesday at 2pm to pick up my veggie share.” Alternatively, you can set it this way, click here!

VI. PICK-UP INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Please follow current Dane county guidelines for masking.
  2.  Locate your personal share. It will be labelled with your name with a pack sheet. There will be no check sheets this season.
  3. Unpack your veggies into your own bag or box.  Many folks bring two bags to make unpacking quick – light things in one; heavy in other. The plastic boxes that the produce will be in MUST NOT leave the drop site.
  4. If you ordered them, take eggs. It will be listed on your pack sheet.
  5. Neatly stack empty boxes and lids to keep site free of clutter.
  6. Unclaimed Boxes: Boxes unclaimed by specified pick-up times will be donated. The farm does NOT sweep sites for unclaimed shares. It is NOT the farm’s responsibility to get you a box you forgot to pick up. No credits or refunds will be issued for forgotten boxes.

VII. OPTIONS IF I CAN’T PICK UP MY BOX

The farm does not redeliver boxes you forget to pick up. The farm does not issue credits or refunds for boxes you forget to pick up or for which you neglect to make special arrangements.

If you know ahead of time that you can’t pick up your share, there are additional options available to you. All special arrangements need to be set up by 9 am on the FRIDAY prior to your next pickup.

To make a request, please email the full request to the farm, including your membership name, the week you need to change and exactly how you’d like to change it.

Options:

#1:  FARM HOLD: You can have your box delivered at our farm, at 4144 County Road J in Cross Plains for you to pick up later in the week/weekend. To do this, you need to temporarily switch your pickup location to our farm (in the system as Farm on J) for the week. You can do this at your member account: https://csa.farmigo.com/account/crossroadscommunityfarm.

#2: MAKEUP BOX  You can ask to receive a makeup box at your pickup site. For REGs, this would give you two boxes in one week. For EOs, you can have it delivered on an off week, either at your site or at a nearby site that has weekly deliveries. Please note, a makeup box will not be exactly the same as what you missed, as availability is constantly changing. If you’d like to do this, email us and make sure your request includes the date you want your makeup box to be delivered.

#3:  FRIEND PICKUP You can have a friend or colleague pick it up for you. The farm does not need to be notified of this arrangement. But we do ask that you explain how pick-up works to them.   Problems and issues at the sites are almost always due to the friend pickup.

#4:  DONATE We will donate your share to our Everyone Deserves Healthy Food program recipients on your behalf.  To do this, please make us aware of your desire to donate ahead of time via email and we can do the rest.

In addition to these weekly recipes, we have other ways to help you use your box.

  1. Recipe Archive Crossroads has HUNDREDS of archived recipes(click here) on our website with a recipe search function that makes it easy to search recipes using one or multiple vegetables. Please make use of it to help use the items in your box!
