I. CSA MEMBERSHIP AND RISK

This summer season, you will join our family in the risk of farming. You’ll be with us through the ups and downs, the bounty and loss of what our Wisconsin climate and soils can produce. We can’t control the weather. Your share may have less (or more!) of what you are expecting. Through diversity and good planning, it is our aim that your box will be full of beautiful vegetables each delivery.

II. CUSTOMIZING YOUR SHARE & OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

As the farmers, it is our responsibility to grow, pack, and deliver food to you with open communication. Members have responsibilities too. To make sure everyone gets their share each week, we ask that you follow the simple, yet critical directions we offer.

Basic member responsibilities:

  1. Read communications from the farm.
  2. Know where and when to pick-up your CSA share. Out of respect for both your farmers and other members, make sure anyone picking up your box on your behalf knows what to do as well.  The farm will not issue credit or refunds for unclaimed or forgotten boxes.
  3. Take only the box labelled with your name.
  4. Take home your produce in your own bag or box.
  5. Please be mindful that we can’t control the growing conditions. The quantity and quality of the produce you receive may be more or less than expected.

Customizing Your Share:

The option to customize is available to all members  but not required. If you do not wish to customize, then you have no additional responsibilities. We will pack your box and deliver it like we always have.

If you’d like to customize, here’s how (including hyper links to screen shots):

Step 1. Each Friday, you will receive an email from the farm that tells you what will be in the pre-filled share the following Wednesday.  If you want the share as is, you don’t have to do a thing.
Step 2. If you’d like to customize, you’ll click the link in the email that will take you to our online store and login. Generally, you should only ever have to log in once on each device, as the browser should remember you in future. Works on smart phones too.
Step 3. Once in the store, you should see your name in the upper right corner. And next to that your cart with all the items that we are planning to put in your share. It will list the number of items in the box and will state that you have 0 credits remaining.  Screen shot.
Step 4. You can now begin to customize.  To take something out of your cart, use the the minus sign. To increase an item use the plus sign. To add an item that’s not in the box but is available in the online store, use the plus/minus buttons under the item. This screen shot shows a box where 4 items were removed and provided 10 credits for the member to choose other items.
Step 5. Understand your credits. Each box will have a certain number of credits each week (typically fewer credits in the early part of the season, more credits as the heat loving crops come in). Let’s say your first box has 25 credits worth of food in it. So as you make changes and substitutions, you want to try and keep at 25 credits. You may purchase additional items(aka go over 25 credits), but unused credits DO NOT rollover into future deliveries. Extra credits chosen will be charged to your credit card; each credit is charged as $1. Once your credit card is on file, you won’t have to re-enter it on future orders. Play around with the system a bit and look at your cart to see how adding and subtracting items looks. This screen shot shows a person who added extra items to her box, which cost $6 extra.
Step 6. Understand inventory.  If an item’s plus sign is greyed out, that means there is no more inventory available of that item. The sooner you make your choices, the more options will be available.
Step 7. To finalize your box order, click check out at the bottom of your cart. Then you need to click “place order” on the next page. You’ll see a black and white confirmation page once you’ve completed these steps. If you don’t click “place order”, the order won’t go through. Screen shot.
Step 8. If you make a mistake on your order, you can go back and edit it. You have to re-do the entire order and place it again.
Step 9. You have until Sunday night at 8pm to customize your share box. After that, you will be unable to make any changes. This gives the farm the time it needs to plan and prep for the needed harvests on Monday and Tuesday. If you need to change your email on file to one that works best for this Fri-Sun window, you can do so on your account: https://csa.farmigo.com/account/crossroadscommunityfarm

IV. REGS VS. EOS AND DELIVERY DATES

***All CSA box deliveries are on WEDNESDAYS.**

Regular Members (REGs) Pick up Dates:

Each Wednesday starting 6/6/18 through 10/17/18

Everyother Members (EOs) Pick up Dates:

Everyother members are split into 2 groups: Group A & Group B. **You received an email with the your group assignment.

Group A  members start pickup on 6/6/18 and go every other week through 10/10/18

Group B members start pickup on 6/13/18 and go every other week through 10/17/18

In years past, we differentiated between regular and everyother shares at the site with lid top color. Since all shares are labelled with names now, share types and lid color no longer need to be differentiated. Some weeks your box will have a white lid; others a black lid. The important thing is to find the box with YOUR NAME on it.

VII. OPTIONS IF I CAN’T PICK UP MY BOX

The farm does not issue credits or refunds for boxes you forget to pick up or neglect to make special arrangements for.

If you know ahead of time that you can’t pick up your share, there are additional options available to you. All special arrangements need to be set up by 8 pm on the SUNDAY evening prior to pick up.

To make a request, please email the full request to the farm, including your membership name, the week you need to change and exactly how you’d like to change it.

Options:

#1:  FARM HOLD: You can have your box delivered at our farm, at 4144 County Road J in Cross Plains for you to pick up later in the week/weekend. To do this, you need to temporarily switch your pickup location to our farm (in the system as Farm on J) for the week. You can do this at your member account: https://csa.farmigo.com/account/crossroadscommunityfarm.  Unfortunately, due to software limitations, the farm can’t make this temporary pickup site change for you; you have to do it yourself.

#2: MAKEUP BOX  You can ask to receive a makeup box at your pickup site. For REGs, this would give you two boxes in one week. For EOs, you can have it delivered on an off week. Please note, a makeup box will not be exactly the same as what you missed, as availability is constantly changing. If you’d like to do this, email us and make sure your request includes the date you want your makeup box to be delivered.

#3:  FRIEND PICKUP You can have a friend or colleague pick it up for you. The farm does not need to be notified of this arrangement. But we do ask that you explain how pick-up works to them.   Problems and issues at the sites are almost always due to the friend pickup.

#4:  DONATE We will donate your share to the Good Shepherd food pantry on your behalf.  To do this, you’ll need to make a temporary site change switch to our STRATFORD CT. site and then make us aware of your desire to donate via email so we can get your share to the pantry. To temporarily switch your site, go to your account https://csa.farmigo.com/account/crossroadscommunityfarm

VIII. MEMBER RESOURCES (Recipes, Newsletter, Facebook Group)

Every week,on the Tuesday prior to pickup, we’ll send you a newsletter, called the Crossroads Companion. In it, we will share farm stories, cooking tips, and about 6-9 recipes that are specifically chosen to help you use the contents of your box.

In addition to these weekly recipes, we have other ways to help you use your box.

  1. Recipe Archive Crossroads has HUNDREDS of archived recipes on our website with a recipe search function that makes it easy to search recipes using one or multiple vegetables. Please make use of it to help use the items in your box!
  2. Storage Tips Our website also includes specific information on how to store and use all the vegetables we grow.
  3. Facebook Group New this year, we are starting a closed group for members only. The idea of this group is to use the community of members to help everyone learn how to use their vegetables. I’ll post helpful tips and videos and encourage our veteran members to do the same. To join, click here!
