No SNAP? Let’s HELP: Fall Week #2 – Wed. Nov 5, 2025
I’m sure you’ve been hearing the news.
November SNAP benefits have not gone out to the recipients who depend on them.
A couple facts stick with me regarding SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
- 1 in 8 Americans rely on them
- Average monthly SNAP check is $187
- An estimated 64,000 people in Dane County will be affected by the lack of SNAP funds
Then there’s the heartbreaking stories of families in such deep poverty, where the lack of SNAP means empty dinner tables, a family member skipping eating so that a child can, people being forced to choose between food and medications.
Honestly, I can’t imagine. I have never experienced food insecurity in my life. And certainly as a farmer, I do not. Food is always just steps away from my garage. I just can’t imagine not knowing how I am gonna put food on the table. I cannot imagine the stress and the fear.
I should be out picking Brussels Sprouts ahead of Sunday’s cold temperatures. I should be out harvesting leeks and radishes so the imminent cold weather doesn’t destroy them.
But I can’t focus on all that. I am focusing on what we can do as Crossroads to lend a hand to folks who are facing stress and struggle around food insecurity.
I called Aaron from Healthy Food For All and asked if he can keep the mobile pantry van coming. He said yes! So let’s keep filling up this mobile van with staples like potatoes and carrots as we go into these colder times.
Will you help? I’ve thrown together a fundraiser to keep Aaron’s van moving and full. Click here if you are interested in donating:
