Greetings from Minnesota – Week #7 – 7/20/22
Greetings from Minnesota
Greetings from family camp! (I’m writing this message on a rainy Friday afternoon, because once I’m actually up at family camp, there is no internet access!).
This week the Noltnerwyss kids are with me up in beautiful Chippewa National Forest.
We love it up here at family camp – the kids and adults alike get a camp experience. We are up at Unistar Island in Cass Lake, MN. There’s a dock and beach and all the fun water toys you can imagine: canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, sunfish sailboats. The island is gorgeous and has loads of breathtaking hiking trails.
The counselors are all in their early twenties, and they lead programs for kids and teens and cook meals for everyone.
The girls and I stay in tents right near the water and get lulled to sleep each night listening to the mild lake waves. A conch shell gets blown in the morning to announce breakfast. I don’t have to cook a single meal and I can drink all the coffee I want!
Families that come to family camp are social and enjoy spending their vacation in community. Every day we have a happy hour where we each bring drinks and snacks and socialize together.
The end of the week features a talent show and dance party.
The main cabin always has a ping pong came going. And little kids run around far past dark.
I haven’t grown too old for camp, and I am so very pleased to have a relaxing week away from the farm and a return to this special place after two summers of Covid.
I want to give a special shout out to Michael, my crew, and all the farm volunteers for keeping the farm running smoothly in my absence.
Here’s hoping your summer has a fun adventure to be found!
Cheers,
Farmer Cassie
