Farm Feast: CSA Summer ’13 ” Week #9
Coming up on Saturday, August 17th, we are excited to see our functional farm outbuildings transformed into an outdoor restaurant for a night.
Eat for Equity is hosting a farm dinner here at Crossroads in order to help raise money for the FairShare CSA Coalition’s partner shares program.
Lots of organizations, I know! Let me break it down.
FairShare CSA Coalition is a local non-profit that does some fantastic work for local food in our area. They put it best: “We are a coalition of people invested in the vitality and strength of our community. Through education, outreach, community building and resource sharing, we are working to raise the bar on quality and accessibility of CSA shares in our region.”
Many of you may be familiar with FairShare, as they host a wonderful open house each March, that helps potential CSA members find a farmer. Many of you found Crossroads this way. FairShare is also responsible for brokering the amazing CSA rebate program with several area health insurance providers.
Another of their very important programs is called Partner Shares. Partner Shares is a cost-sharing program that provides financial assistance to limited-income households for purchasing CSA vegetable shares. For eligible households, FairShare will contribute up to $300 toward farm shares from FairShare-endorsed CSA farms. Committed to its vision of making CSA available to everyone, the organization does a variety of different fundraising events to fund this program.
Enter Eat for Equity and the Farm Feast at Crossroads.
Eat for Equity Madison “organizes bi-monthly feasts for a cause”. Eat for Equity cooks up a delicious feast made with with local and organic ingredients and serves this feast at area farms. Feast participants pay a sliding scale fee for the meal. After Eat for Equity covers its costs, it donates the remainder to an area organization with a great social cause – like Domestic Abuse Intervention Services, Centro Hispano, and FairShare.
The farm feast that will be at our farm on the 17th will benefit FairShare CSA Coalition’s Partner Shares program. You can expect lots of delicious Crossroads veggies to end up in the meal.
Eat for Equity is looking for diners and volunteers! If you are interested in being part of this wonderful fundraising feast, please venture onto the event’s Facebook page where you can rsvp as a diner, or get in contact with the organization to help volunteer.
Thanks and enjoy your veggies!
