Seasonal Report Card: CSA Summer ’13 ” Week #17
As cooler weather begins to usher in the end of the growing season, many folks have been asking us how the season has gone.
Here’s my 2013 standard response: “Some crops were unbelievably great, a few did horribly, and most did well. We’re looking at a B average, which is just about the best you can hope for in farming.” No single season is ever going to be the best for all crops, as many of them prefer different types of weather. With good soil and weed management, coupled with the ability to irrigate, our aim is to get as many crops as possible producing to their best. But there are always things we can’t control. So we are happy with “B” years. For fun, I made a little report card to give you a better idea of which crops did well, and which did not. Happy eating!
