Caroline Failon (she/her) – Farm crew member

Hi! My name is Caroline and I’m originally from Richmond, Virginia. My first full time farming job was with Crossroads starting in June 2021 and I loved it so much that I’m returning for my second season. I love farming because it is outdoor work that combines my passions for plants, environmental conservation, local food systems, sustainability, and delicious organic vegetables. I especially like farming at Crossroads because of the queer-friendly work environment, the feeling of empowerment to continue to learn new skills and improve, and the punny jokesters who help make the hard days a lot more fun. A couple crops that bring a smile to my face are eggplants that have “noses” and carrots that come in all shapes and sizes. I also enjoy harvesting and snacking on peppers, especially if Pepper the resident farm dog is supervising. In my free time I enjoy birding (shout out to the Feminist Bird Club of Madison), identifying plants, exploring Wisconsin state parks, XC skiing (new hobby as of this past winter), reading, and cooking and eating local food.
